'Barts Bash' on 21st September.

'Barts Bash' on 21st September.

To all BSC members

As you will no doubt have seen on the internet, social media and TV there is a world record race attempt called 'Barts Bash' on 21st September. Bartley sailing club is supporting the event and I urge you to register and  race on 21st September to help achieve the world record and raise some funds for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation Charity.

To comply with the Guinness world record attempt we need to organise a race sometime on 21st September. We need as many club members as possible to enter the race to support  the world record attempt. It does not matter if you don't normally race or if you normally race on a Saturday  please put 21st September 11.00 in your diary and turn up for what is likely to be the biggest race ever in the history of our club and be part of the world record attempt. Further details will be made available nearer the date.

Yes the car park will be overflowing, yes the changing rooms will be overflowing and yes it will be busy on the water. But these are minor things compared with the aims and goals of the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation Charity and for one race on one day I would ask that all club members make a real effort to participate and be part of this fantastic event.

 Don't forget..... Sunday 21st September, 11:00

Thanks

A Big Thank You

I would just like to thank everyone who helped make the Open Day such a successful day. There was a steady stream of people who turned up at Bartley having read about or seen on the Midlands news that we were opening the club for the day to potential new members and/or people just wanting to ‘have a go’.

The feedback I got from Gareth Brooks RYA was very positive and they were very pleased about the way we had embraced the ‘Push the Boat Out Day’. From my perspective I thought it couldn’t have gone much better. We were very fortunate with the weather which always helps, but I was impressed with the way everyone rallied round, organising BBQs, taking details down, sorting membership packs, sorting buoyancy aids, getting boats rigged and put away.

Having the informal race in the afternoon meant that not only did visitors get a chance to see a race but some of our newer members took the opportunity to race for the first time.

If anybody has got any photos could they email them to me and I will arrange for them to go on our website and also send them to Karenza at the RYA.

Thanks once again.

Push the Boat Out – Saturday 17th May 2014

Push the Boat Out – Saturday 17th May 2014

Bartley Broadcast

Push the Boat Out – Saturday 17th May 2014

I just want to let everyone know about ‘Push the Boat Out’. It is a national RYA initiative that we are joining in with and combining with our own Open Day.

The club will be opening its doors from 9.30am to people of all ages and abilities to come along and have a go at sailing.

Some of you will already know that the BBC were at the Club yesterday filming our activities. They went out on the water, interviewed a few members, filmed one of Howard’s school groups. This will all be broadcast this Friday on the BBC Midlands Tonight programme at about 6.30pm. I am sure this will show the club in a good light. It may also lead to people turning up on Saturday for our Open Day. Information has also gone to local radio and newspapers.

On Saturday the club will be open, with K2O being there in the morning. It is hoped that we will attract visitors throughout the day and get as many as possible out on the water. In the afternoon we plan to do one race, which will give us a chance to show what racing is all about. The race is not part of the Spring Series.

The important thing is to get as many members there as possible to showcase the club. It would be good to get boats rigged so people can look at them and also get some out on the water for people to see.

If you haven’t been up to the club for a while, this is a chance to get back up and see what’s going on. You can also see the new changing facilities which have just been finished and do look very smart.

Look forward to seeing a very busy club, lots of members and visitors.

Regards

Mike Gibson

Join in and ‘Push the Boat Out’ at Bartley Sailing Club

May is National Watersports Month and Bartley Sailing Club in Bartley Green are hoping to get 30 plus people out on the water on RYA Push the Boat Out weekend.

On Saturday 17th May, the club will be opening its doors and inviting people of all ages and abilities to come along and have a go at sailing.

Whether you’re completely new to the sport, looking to get back on the water or sail regularly, Bartley will be one of the many sailing clubs and centres across the country taking part in RYA Push the Boat Out weekend. RYA Sport Development Manager Duncan Truswell said “Push the Boat Out provides the perfect opportunity for people to discover their local sailing venue, meet key volunteers and like-minded people, have a go at the sport and find out how much fun it is and how easy it is to get involved.”
