Thanks to all who supported yesterday's end of series regatta and prize giving.
The working party cleared a large fallen branch and general dedris from the top of the boat park, cleaned up a club Phantom ready for sale, cleaned the 2.4m boats which we hope to sell on during the week, mowed the grass, strimmed the area adjacent to the garage, edged the grass / curbs, and polished the trophies. Thanks to all who worked hard to make the club ship shape - as they say 'many hands make light work'.
The K2O junior group were out in force with a great sailing session in a sunny force 3 followed by the award of their RYA certificates. Congratulations to all.
We had plenty of potential new member visits with Nigel Hudson kindly taking 2 prospective members out in his National 12 for a joy ride, and a further 2 taking advantage of John Ling's laser to remind them what dinghy sailing is all about after a number of years yachting. There was further interest in K2O membership with a taster session arranged for a junior next week. Thanks to Nigel and John for stepping up at the last minute to show what Bartley can provide.
We also welcomed an Enterprise (Graham and Jennifer) and a Laser (Tony) from Earlswood who will be joining us until the end of November whilst the water levels replenish at their home club. Please say hello if you you see them at the club.
The afternoon racing saw over 20 boats taking to the start line. The first race favoured the asymetrics with some screaming reaches for them to power through - high on the 'grin factor' for all. Howard and Sean took the win with some exemplary RS400 sailing. The second race was more windward / leeward and, with a falling breeze, favoured the single handers with David Badger taking the win in this race.
The overall regatta was won by John Ling showing consistency pays. David Badger got the Sliver medal spot followed by a joint 3rd place on points for Howard and Sean, shared with Harry in his Solo. First Junior was Sean and first Junior helm was Millie in her RS Tera who sailed for nearly 80 minutes in each race!
For the Summer Series the winners were:
Gary 'O' trophy for Handicap 1 Saturday Neil Boneham
Asterix Cup for Saturday Pursuit Mike Gibson
Vic Lewis Cup for Handicap 2 Saturday Mike Gibson
Sunday fun series Roger Pass
Junior Harisson Allen
Novice Hanah Milne
The raffle turned into an auction for the Gill Gillet and buoyancy aid raising £65 for the club
After a curry and a drink many members joined the EGM upstairs to review the current financial situation and plans for the club
Again - thanks to all who supported this enjoyable day.
Some photos.... (by the way if you want to buy the Phantom it is going on apolloduck today)
