John Millward 1923 - 2021

It is with sadness that I have been asked to pass on the news that one of Bartley Sailing Club's founder members John Millward passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday 20th January aged 98.

John was a much loved, hugely respected sailor, who did so much to make Bartley the thriving club it continues to be today.

John was always the mechanic, a trade learned from overseeing Spitfire radiator manufacturing in his early days, which he then transferred to tinkering with anything that could sail in later life. Those in the Mirror fleet may even have the plywood scale models of their boats that John made for them during the last season before his move from the Midlands to Gosport for his retirement (I know my Dad's is still pride of place).

John is survived by his Wife Kath to whom he was married for 78 years, children, grand children and even a couple of great grand children, nearly all of whom have experienced John's passion for sailing and encouragement to get out on the water.

For those wishing to write to Kath they may do so by sending correspondence to:

Kath Millward, Brookfield Retirement Residence, 1 Clayhall Road, Gosport, PO12 2DY
