A Great Weekend of Foiling with more Events to come...
Thanks to Shaun from the Andrew Simpson Foundation for training 20 lucky people in the basics of foiling over the weekend.
The sessions commenced with a brief demonstration of the physics behind foiling and the difference in techniques between a displacement hull and a foiler. The candidates then went out on the water and started to fly in the two foiling craft - a Nikki and a Skeeter. The technique of windward heel coupled with the rapid change from real to apparent wind sailing was quite a challenge, but once up on the foils you were rewarded with a moment of calm flight with just a slight whistle as the craft cut through the water. Unfortunately this was often followed by a landing to windward and a full body rinse - but at least the weather was warm!
Everyone I spoke to had a fantastic time so lets hope Shaun, Nikki and Sleeta can return sometime soon.
So what next?
