This Saturday 1st April 2017 starts our new spring sailing series and we WELCOME all club members to come a join in the fabulous sailing especially as the weather is also looking good.
We have changed the sailing format slightly to Fleet racing to encourage more club members to enjoy and below is how we are planning to run the races, so please come on down!! and join in the fun.
Starts 11:30 am with 5 minute warning @ 11:25. Fly numeral pennant 6
Each fleet will then start after the race has begun with 2 intervals apart.

11:36 Solo start
11.38 Novice start (anyone from K20, youths, etc.)
On the technical side we shall be running flag Zulu (20% penalty and restart (no redress, OOD decision) this will hopefully avoid any delays with fleet recalls, this is in place of the Blue Peter.

Solo’s
BACK TO BACK for last race
15.15 Fleet three race 2 min intervals

Supernovas & Lasers (all Standard & Radial rigs)

Notes for OD’s
o Use the same start line as the finish line
o Start flags are the clubs normal 5, 4, 1 go… thereafter sound signals with class flags
- Shortening the course on the boat that approaches the line approx. 50mins this most likely will be a slow boat
- 30 mins Time limit for boats to finish after first boat has finished
o For each fleet shorten the boats on the same lap if possible
o As each boat finishes record their actual time they cross the line – Fleet positions/or handicaps will be used along with average laps to calculate results, although fleet finishing positions will be visible on the water.
o On each race record sheet note the Start time of the exact first race. i.e. RS400 off time
o After race two is finished the 3rd race should be started asap effectively back to back allow for the fleet to return to the line.
- Results are for each fleet, whilst we will tract an overall combined result this is not used for prizes
I The sailing committee are on hand this weekend to help with any queries and Nick Thornton is OD so I’m sure all will go well. I know change brings apprehension but please try and go with it and see if this change helps the formatting etc. Later in the series we are conducting a review so we welcome feedback and any constructive views to help continually improve things.
Kind regards
